Just opening last week is The Colors of Hope at Lewiston’s Gallery 5, including the work of Ann Krumrein and Susan Guthrie. You can now see all of the work online and the show runs until October 9th. The Colors of Hope show is sponsored in conjunction with the Dempsey Challenge to raise funds and awareness for cancer treatment. The show looks to be well worth checking out if you are in the area, and it is a great space. You can see samples of the work from Ann and Susan below:

Glossary of Fine Art Printing Terms, and a few shows
Aug 1st, 2010 by admin
A thanks to John Paul Caponigro and Dan Steinhardt for providing this great glossary of fine art printing terms – a wonderful resource for anyone talking about printing.
Besides the glossary, I also wanted to mention a new show at Ten High Street Gallery in Camden which will be having a new show entitled “Looking Forward from Behind” opening August 13th from 5-7. Of particular note to me is that John will be showing a number of NE client Linden Frederick’s paintings in the gallery.
Also, NE client Bob Moran will be showing a wide selection of his work at the Bangor Sidewalk Art Festival on August 7th. We just printed his new work (on Photo Rag) and it looks great – one of my favorite new images is below:
Update: 8/8/10 – Congrats to Bob Moran also on winning the Best in Show Photography Award at the festival yesterday!
Lily Piel & Linda Funk Shows
Jul 19th, 2010 by admin
I wanted to give an update on a few clients who have work available to see right now here in Maine. Lily Piel has another show up of her farm-based photography- this time at Frontier Cafe in Brunswick, ME – that lasts until August 28th.
Linda Funk’s exquisite botanical drawings will also be on display at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor from July 26th through August 15th, 2010, with a reception on Thursday, July 29th from 5-7 p.m. Both of these shows are well worth checking out.
Sarah Szwajkos and Personal Space…
Jul 13th, 2010 by admin
…her amazing series of photographs entitled Personal Space, that is. My friend (and NE client) Sarah has gotten some much-deserved Internet press for her Personal Space series – first as a Hey, Hot Shot! contender and also on Design*Sponge. You can check out here whole series under the Portfolios and then Fine Art link on her website – a must view if you haven’t been there yet.
Rockland, Maine gallery update
Jul 11th, 2010 by admin
As I mentioned on Facebook, I did make it to Carver Hill’s new location that I mentioned in the last post and the gallery is quite nice – and Lynn’s work looks wonderful there, with a whole wall essentially dedicated to her vegetable series. Impeccable framing by Christine at Christine’s Gallery as well – they are stunning images particularly when behind the museum glass.
I also stopped by The Landing Gallery to see their current July exhibit of Michael Kahn (note – I can’t find a website for the gallery but they are listed on this Rockland gallery list). I had never seen his work in person and I’m glad I made the effort – it really is gorgeous work. Most of his work is square format, toned silver gelatin prints of nautical images (mostly boats) but he also had some larger digital prints for some of the images. Besides getting to see his work in person, you can also use this show as an opportunity to compare digital b&w and traditional b&w prints in the same space. Both of these galleries make a visit to Rockland well worth the effort (not to mention all of the great restaurants, other galleries, etc.).
Carver Hill, Rockland & Lynn Karlin
Jun 30th, 2010 by admin
Carver Hill Gallery is opening a new (additional gallery) at 338 Main St. in Rockland, Maine and one of the artists featured there will be NE client Lynn Karlin. The Carver Hill Rockland location will apparently supplement the nearby Rockport location (confusing names for adjacent towns, but I’m getting used to it). You can check out the new gallery and work this Friday evening during the First Friday art walk. Congrats to Jana on the new Carver Hill location and to Lynn for the display of her fabulous work!

In yet another new show coming up, the Maine Farmland Trust Gallery in Belfast has another new show entitled “Guardians” opening Friday, June 4th, from 5-8 pm. The show will run until July 13. Among about 10 other artists, you can find portraits from photographer and NE client Lynn Karlin in the show, including the striking image of Scott Nearing below:
